Sathorn unique tower: An abandoned skyscraper in Bangkok
The Sathorn Unique Tower is located in Sathorn; a major commercial district in Bangkok with skyscrapers, offices and upscale condos.
The abandoned Bangkok skyscraper was planned as a 47 storey luxury condominium tower with 600 apartments. Most of the apartments with a view on the Chao Phraya River.
The building was designed and developed by Rangsan Torsuwan, a prominent architect and real estate developer who also designed other luxury buildings in Bangkok and all around Thailand. One of these buildings is the State Tower: the Sathorn Unique's sister building.

The building was about 75 per cent complete when its construction was stopped amid the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997.
It has been left to slowly degrade and now looms over downtown Bangkok like a giant architectural skeleton. While the Ghost Tower is fenced off many tourists each year manage to get past these protective measures and climb the decrepit building.
This is a dangerous activity. Sadly the security guards responsible for making sure no one enter the Sathorn Unique Tower are actually charging money to the people who want to climb the building.
I went to the entrance of the Sathorn Unique Tower in the summer of 2019. I saw 3 foreging tourists negotiating with the security guard the price to pay for entering the bangkok building illegally.
Considering that snaphome.asia is a social network website developed with the idea to help people who want to buy or rent a property in Thailand you might think that the news about tourists climbing a degraded skyscraper is not related to snaphome.asia.
I do not agree with this. I wrote this article because I think the Sathorn Unique Tower is an urbanistic problem. Before building new shopping centers, and luxury condominiums the bangkok administration should think about what to do with the many degraded buildings around Bangkok.
